RUSSIA AND CHINA DO PIPELENEISTAN

Submitted by Pepe Escobar, the roving correspondent for Asia Times/Hong Kong, an analyst for RT and TomDispatch, and a frequent contributor to websites and radio shows ranging from the US to East Asia.

The Birth Of Eurasia - Russia & China Do Pipelineistan
A specter is haunting Washington, an unnerving vision of a Sino-Russian alliance wedded to an expansive symbiosis of trade and commerce across much of the Eurasian land mass - at the expense of the United States.
And no wonder Washington is anxious. That alliance is already a done deal in a variety of ways: through the BRICS group of emerging powers (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa); at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Asian counterweight to NATO; inside the G20; and via the 120-member-nation Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Trade and commerce are just part of the future bargain. Synergies in the development of new military technologies beckon as well. After Russia’s Star Wars-style, ultra-sophisticated S-500 air defense anti-missile system comes online in 2018, Beijing is sure to want a version of it. Meanwhile, Russia is about to sell dozens of state-of-the-art Sukhoi Su-35 jet fighters to the Chinese as Beijing and Moscow move to seal an aviation-industrial partnership.
This week should provide the first real fireworks in the celebration of a new Eurasian century-in-the-making with Russian President Vladimir Putin visiting Xi in Shanghai this Tuesday and Wednesday. You remember Pipelineistan,” all those crucial oil and gas pipelines crisscrossing Eurasia that make up the true circulatory system for the life of the region. Now, it looks like the ultimate Pipelineistan deal, worth $1 trillion and 10 years in the making, will be inked as well. In it, the giant, state-controlled Russian energy giant Gazprom will agree to supply the giant state-controlled China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) with 3.75 billion cubic feet of liquefied natural gas a day for no less than 30 years, starting in 2018. That’s the equivalent of a quarter of Russia’s massive gas exports to all of Europe. China’s current daily gas demand is around 16 billion cubic feet a day, and imports account for 31.6% of total consumption.
Gazprom may still collect the bulk of its profits from Europe, but Asia could turn out to be its Everest. The company will use this mega-deal to boost investment in Eastern Siberia and the whole region will be reconfigured as a privileged gas hub for Japan and South Korea as well. If you want to know why no key country in Asia has been willing to isolate Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian crisis - and in defiance of the Obama administration - look no further than Pipelineistan.

Exit the Petrodollar, Enter the Gas-o-Yuan

And then, talking about anxiety in Washington, there’s the fate of the petrodollar to consider, or rather the “thermonuclear” possibility that Moscow and Beijing will agree on payment for the Gazprom-CNPC deal not in petrodollars but in Chinese yuan. One can hardly imagine a more tectonic shift, with Pipelineistan intersecting with a growing Sino-Russian political-economic-energy partnership. Along with it goes the future possibility of a push, led again by China and Russia, toward a new international reserve currency -- actually a basket of currencies -- that would supersede the dollar (at least in the optimistic dreams of BRICS members).

Right after the potentially game-changing Sino-Russian summit comes a BRICS summit in Brazil in July. That’s when a $100 billion BRICS development bank, announced in 2012, will officially be born as a potential alternative to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank as a source of project financing for the developing world.
More BRICS cooperation meant to bypass the dollar is reflected in the Gas-o-yuan,” as in natural gas bought and paid for in Chinese currency. Gazprom is even considering marketing bonds in yuan as part of the financial planning for its expansion. Yuan-backed bonds are already trading in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, and most recently Frankfurt.
Nothing could be more sensible for the new Pipelineistan deal than to have it settled in yuan. Beijing would pay Gazprom in that currency (convertible into rubles); Gazprom would accumulate the yuan; and Russia would then buy myriad made-in-China goods and services in yuan convertible into rubles.
It’s common knowledge that banks in Hong Kong, from Standard Chartered to HSBC - as well as others closely linked to China via trade deals - have been diversifying into the yuan, which implies that it could become one of the de facto global reserve currencies even before it’s fully convertible. (Beijing is unofficially working for a fully convertible yuan by 2018.)
The Russia-China gas deal is inextricably tied up with the energy relationship between the European Union (EU) and Russia. After all, the bulk of Russia’s gross domestic product comes from oil and gas sales, as does much of its leverage in the Ukraine crisis. In turn, Germany depends on Russia for a hefty 30% of its natural gas supplies. Yet Washington’s geopolitical imperatives - spiced up with Polish hysteria - have meant pushing Brussels to find ways to “punish” Moscow in the future energy sphere (while not imperiling present day energy relationships).
There’s a consistent rumble in Brussels these days about the possible cancellation of the projected 16 billion euro South Stream pipeline, whose construction is to start in June. On completion, it would pump yet more Russian natural gas to Europe - in this case, underneath the Black Sea (bypassing Ukraine) to Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Italy, and Austria.
Bulgaria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic have already made it clear that they are firmly opposed to any cancellation. And cancellation is probably not in the cards. After all, the only obvious alternative is Caspian Sea gas from Azerbaijan, and that isn’t likely to happen unless the EU can suddenly muster the will and funds for a crash schedule to construct the fabled Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline, conceived during the Clinton years expressly to bypass Russia and Iran.
In any case, Azerbaijan doesn’t have enough capacity to supply the levels of natural gas needed, and other actors like Kazakhstan, plagued with infrastructure problems, or unreliable Turkmenistan, which prefers to sell its gas to China, are already largely out of the picture. And don’t forget that South Stream, coupled with subsidiary energy projects, will create a lot of jobs and investment in many of the most economically devastated EU nations.
Nonetheless, such EU threats, however unrealistic, only serve to accelerate Russia’s increasing symbiosis with Asian markets. For Beijing especially, it’s a win-win situation. After all, between energy supplied across seas policed and controlled by the US Navy and steady, stable land routes out of Siberia, it’s no contest.

Pick Your Own Silk Road

Of course, the US dollar remains the top global reserve currency, involving 33% of global foreign exchange holdings at the end of 2013, according to the IMF. It was, however, at 55% in 2000. Nobody knows the percentage in yuan (and Beijing isn’t talking), but the IMF notes that reserves in “other currencies” in emerging markets have been up 400% since 2003.
The Fed is arguably monetizing 70% of the US government debt in an attempt to keep interest rates from heading skywards. Pentagon adviser Jim Rickards, as well as every Hong Kong-based banker, tends to believe that the Fed is bust (though they won’t say it on the record). No one can even imagine the extent of the possible future deluge the US dollar might experience amid a $1.4 quadrillion Mount Ararat of financial derivatives. Don’t think that this is the death knell of Western capitalism, however, just the faltering of that reigning economic faith, neoliberalism, still the official ideology of the United States, the overwhelming majority of the European Union, and parts of Asia and South America.
As far as what might be called the “authoritarian neoliberalism” of the Middle Kingdom, what’s not to like at the moment? China has proven that there is a result-oriented alternative to the Western “democratic” capitalist model for nations aiming to be successful. It’s building not one, but myriad new Silk Roads, massive webs of high-speed railways, highways, pipelines, ports, and fiber optic networks across huge parts of Eurasia. These include a Southeast Asian road, a Central Asian road, an Indian Ocean “maritime highway” and even a high-speed rail line through Iran and Turkey reaching all the way to Germany.
In April, when President Xi Jinping visited the city of Duisburg on the Rhine River, with the largest inland harbor in the world and right in the heartland of Germany’s Ruhr steel industry, he made an audacious proposal: a new “economic Silk Road” should be built between China and Europe, on the basis of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe railway, which already runs from China to Kazakhstan, then through Russia, Belarus, Poland, and finally Germany. That’s 15 days by train, 20 less than for cargo ships sailing from China’s eastern seaboard. Now that would represent the ultimate geopolitical earthquake in terms of integrating economic growth across Eurasia.
Keep in mind that, if no bubbles burst, China is about to become - and remain - the number one global economic power, a position it enjoyed for 18 of the past 20 centuries. But don’t tell London hagiographers; they still believe that US hegemony will last, well, forever.

Take Me to Cold War 2.0

Despite recent serious financial struggles, the BRICS countries have been consciously working to become a counterforce to the original and - having tossed Russia out in March - once again Group of 7, or G7. They are eager to create a new global architecture to replace the one first imposed in the wake of World War II, and they see themselves as a potential challenge to the exceptionalist and unipolar world that Washington imagines for our future (with itself as the global robocop and NATO as its robo-police force). Historian and imperialist cheerleader Ian Morris, in his book War! What is it Good For?, defines the US as the ultimate “globocop” and “the last best hope of Earth.” If that globocop “wearies of its role,” he writes, “there is no plan B.”
Well, there is a plan BRICS - or so the BRICS nations would like to think, at least. And when the BRICS do act in this spirit on the global stage, they quickly conjure up a curious mix of fear, hysteria, and pugnaciousness in the Washington establishment. Take Christopher Hill as an example. The former assistant secretary of state for East Asia and US ambassador to Iraq is now an advisor with the Albright Stonebridge Group, a consulting firm deeply connected to the White House and the State Department. When Russia was down and out, Hill used to dream of a hegemonic American “new world order.” Now that the ungrateful Russians have spurned what “the West has been offering” - that is, “special status with NATO, a privileged relationship with the European Union, and partnership in international diplomatic endeavors” - they are, in his view, busy trying to revive the Soviet empire. Translation: if you’re not our vassals, you’re against us. Welcome to Cold War 2.0.
The Pentagon has its own version of this directed not so much at Russia as at China, which, its think tank on future warfare claims, is already at war with Washington in a number of ways. So if it’s not apocalypse now, it’s Armageddon tomorrow. And it goes without saying that whatever’s going wrong, as the Obama administration very publicly “pivots” to Asia and the American media fills with talk about a revival of Cold War-era “containment policy” in the Pacific, it’s all China’s fault.
Embedded in the mad dash toward Cold War 2.0 are some ludicrous facts-on-the-ground: the US government, with $17.5 trillion in national debt and counting, is contemplating a financial showdown with Russia, the largest global energy producer and a major nuclear power, just as it’s also promoting an economically unsustainable military encirclement of its largest creditor, China.
Russia runs a sizeable trade surplus. Humongous Chinese banks will have no trouble helping Russian banks out if Western funds dry up. In terms of inter-BRICS cooperation, few projects beat a $30 billion oil pipeline in the planning stages that will stretch from Russia to India via Northwest China. Chinese companies are already eagerly discussing the possibility of taking part in the creation of a transport corridor from Russia into Crimea, as well as an airport, shipyard, and liquid natural gas terminal there. And there’s another “thermonuclear” gambit in the making: the birth of a natural gas equivalent to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries that would include Russia, Iran, and reportedly disgruntled US ally Qatar.
The (unstated) BRICS long-term plan involves the creation of an alternative economic system featuring a basket of gold-backed currencies that would bypass the present America-centric global financial system. (No wonder Russia and China are amassing as much gold as they can.) The euro - a sound currency backed by large liquid bond markets and huge gold reserves - would be welcomed in as well.
It’s no secret in Hong Kong that the Bank of China has been using a parallel SWIFT network to conduct every kind of trade with Tehran, which is under a heavy US sanctions regime. With Washington wielding Visa and Mastercard as weapons in a growing Cold War-style economic campaign against Russia, Moscow is about to implement an alternative payment and credit card system not controlled by Western finance. An even easier route would be to adopt the Chinese Union Pay system, whose operations have already overtaken American Express in global volume.

I’m Just Pivoting With Myself

No amount of Obama administration “pivoting” to Asia to contain China (and threaten it with US Navy control of the energy sea lanes to that country) is likely to push Beijing far from its Deng Xiaoping-inspired, self-described peaceful development strategy meant to turn it into a global powerhouse of trade. Nor are the forward deployment of US or NATO troops in Eastern Europe or other such Cold-War-ish acts likely to deter Moscow from a careful balancing act: ensuring that Russia’s sphere of influence in Ukraine remains strong without compromising trade and commercial, as well as political, ties with the European Union - above all, with strategic partner Germany. This is Moscow’s Holy Grail; a free-trade zone from Lisbon to Vladivostok, which (not by accident) is mirrored in China’s dream of a new Silk Road to Germany.
Increasingly wary of Washington, Berlin for its part abhors the notion of Europe being caught in the grips of a Cold War 2.0. German leaders have more important fish to fry, including trying to stabilize a wobbly EU while warding off an economic collapse in southern and central Europe and the advance of ever more extreme right-wing parties.
Reuters / Stringer

On the other side of the Atlantic, President Obama and his top officials show every sign of becoming entangled in their own pivoting - to Iran, to China, to Russia’s eastern borderlands, and (under the radar) to Africa. The irony of all these military-first maneuvers is that they are actually helping Moscow, Tehran, and Beijing build up their own strategic depth in Eurasia and elsewhere, as reflected in Syria, or crucially in ever more energy deals. They are also helping cement the growing strategic partnership between China and Iran. The unrelenting Ministry of Truth narrative out of Washington about all these developments now carefully ignores the fact that, without Moscow, the “West” would never have sat down to discuss a final nuclear deal with Iran or gotten a chemical disarmament agreement out of Damascus.
When the disputes between China and its neighbors in the South China Sea and between that country and Japan over the Senkaku/Diaoyou islands meet the Ukraine crisis, the inevitable conclusion will be that both Russia and China consider their borderlands and sea lanes private property and aren’t going to take challenges quietly - be it via NATO expansion, US military encirclement, or missile shields. Neither Beijing nor Moscow is bent on the usual form of imperialist expansion, despite the version of events now being fed to Western publics. Their “red lines” remain essentially defensive in nature, no matter the bluster sometimes involved in securing them.
Whatever Washington may want or fear or try to prevent, the facts on the ground suggest that, in the years ahead, Beijing, Moscow, and Tehran will only grow closer, slowly but surely creating a new geopolitical axis in Eurasia. Meanwhile, a discombobulated America seems to be aiding and abetting the deconstruction of its own unipolar world order, while offering the BRICS a genuine window of opportunity to try to change the rules of the game.

Russia and China in Pivot Mode

In Washington’s think-tank land, the conviction that the Obama administration should be focused on replaying the Cold War via a new version of containment policy to “limit the development of Russia as a hegemonic power” has taken hold. The recipe: weaponize the neighbors from the Baltic states to Azerbaijan to “contain” Russia. Cold War 2.0 is on because, from the point of view of Washington’s elites, the first one never really left town.
Yet as much as the US may fight the emergence of a multipolar, multi-powered world, economic facts on the ground regularly point to such developments. The question remains: Will the decline of the hegemon be slow and reasonably dignified, or will the whole world be dragged down with it in what has been called “the Samson option”?
While we watch the spectacle unfold, with no end game in sight, keep in mind that a new force is growing in Eurasia, with the Sino-Russian strategic alliance threatening to dominate its heartland along with great stretches of its inner rim. Now, that’s a nightmare of Mackinderesque proportions from Washington’s point of view. Think, for instance, of how Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former national security adviser who became a mentor on global politics to President Obama, would see it.
In his 1997 book The Grand Chessboard, Brzezinski argued that “the struggle for global primacy [would] continue to be played” on the Eurasian “chessboard,” of which “Ukraine was a geopolitical pivot.” “If Moscow regains control over Ukraine,” he wrote at the time, Russia would “automatically regain the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia.”
That remains most of the rationale behind the American imperial containment policy - from Russia’s European “near abroad” to the South China Sea. Still, with no endgame in sight, keep your eye on Russia pivoting to Asia, China pivoting across the world, and the BRICS hard at work trying to bring about the new Eurasian Century.

TRANSHUMANISTS: SUPERHUMAN POWERS AND LIFE EXTENSION TECHNOLOGIES WILL ALLOW US TO BECOME LIKE GOD

If you could merge your current mind and body with technology that would give you superhuman powers and would allow you to live forever, would you do it?  This is essentially what the transhumanism movement is seeking to accomplish.  Transhumanists envision a day when technology will allow humanity to become so advanced that sickness, disease, poverty and war will essentially be eradicated.  They believe that merging with machines will permit us to become trillions of times more intelligent than we are today, and they also believe that radical life extension technologies will make it possible for humanity to actually achieve immortality.  Many transhumanists are convinced that such a world can be achieved within their lifetimes.  They point to Moore’s Law and to the fact that technology already appears to be growing at an exponential rate.  As the technology curve continues to steepen, transhumanists believe that our world will rapidly become transformed into a place that would be unrecognizable to us today.  Just a few decades from now, transhumanists believe that superhuman powers and extremely advanced life extension technologies will allow them to essentially become like gods.
The key moment that most transhumanists are looking forward to is known as “the Singularity”.  That is the moment when artificial intelligence will actually surpass human intelligence and a massive technological chain reaction will be triggered.  At that time, most transhumanists believe that biological intelligence will merge with non-biological intelligence and humanity will become vastly more intelligent than it is today.  During this transition, society will be fundamentally transformed
After the Singularity occurs, it is predicted that vast changes will sweep through society; changes so drastic that they are nearly inconceivable at the present time. Experts in the movement say that after the Singularity, indefinite human life extension will rapidly become the norm. Many scientists working in this field are particularly interested in the concept of achieving immortality.
To most people, the idea of achieving immortality in our decaying physical bodies would sound absolutely ridiculous.
But transhumanists are very serious about this.
One way they are seeking to accomplish this is by searching for a method that will enable them to store the human mind on a computer.  If your entire consciousness could be “uploaded” into a computer, it could conceivably later be downloaded into a futuristic avatar of some sort once that technology has been developed.
But that is not the only life extension technology that transhumanists are working on.  Some other examples include embedding nanobots in our bodies and brains and eliminating diseases through the process of “genetic reprogramming”…
Other futurists and transhumanists are working toward improving longevity through more biological means, such as growing new organs from stems cells, replacing worn out parts of the body with high-tech updated models, and curing diseases through genetic reprogramming. A third method of achieving a transhuman state of being may come through merging the biological and non biological in equal measure, such as embedding nano robots into the bloodstream and brain; and replacing atoms with nano computers to solve the degeneration that comes with aging.
According to transhumanists, not only will we be able to live much longer, but our quality of life will also be so much better in the future.  The following is how one transhumanist envisions what life will be like in the 2050s
Robots have become an important family acquisition. Ability to replicate self-assembling robot parts in nanofactories, make these machines easily available and affordable. By 2050, technologies advancing at “Moore’s Law” speeds have produced an android-like creature nearly indiscernible from a human.
Programmed with Internet-downloaded software, 2050s household robots cater to our every whim. They also manage the nanorobots that whiz through our veins keeping us healthy 24/7, and monitor our safety when we connect to simulation events that whisk us away in a Star Trek Holodeck-like adventure.
That sounds wonderful doesn’t it?
But how will we earn the money to pay for all of those things?
If robots are so advanced at that point, why would companies even need human workers?
Or will we have to “enhance” ourselves with technology just to be useful in the workforce?
In a recent article by Andrew Smart, he suggests that these “enhancements” could just turn us into “better slaves”…
Could it be that we’ve been tricked into pouring our innovative energy into making ourselves better slaves? If the digital elite achieves its dream of a perfect union with machines, what becomes of the rest of us who either can’t afford cyborgification or who actually enjoy life as a regular human being? Would one Singularitized human be expected to handle the workload of 100 unenhanced workers? Robots will have of course taken the rest of the jobs.
In fact, robots are already taking our jobs at a staggering pace.  This is even happening in low wage countries such as China
Chinese company Hon Hai, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, has announced it intends to build a robot-making factory and replace 500,000 workers with robots over the next three years.
But transhumanists are not really concerned with such matters.  They insist that we will become so intelligent that we will easily figure out the solutions to such social issues.
Yes, most transhumanists concede that there will be bumps on the road to utopia, but they argue that it would be foolish not to “take control of our own evolution”.  They believe that we can use science and technology to guide the evolution of society and that this will create a far better world than we have today.  The following is what one participant stated at a recent conference about transhumanism and religion
Transhumanism is a thrust toward transcendence. It is not classical mysticism but seeks a temporal transcendence The driving force behind this is evolution…
What is reality? Reality is evolution. It has a direction from the simple to the complex; the most complex [outcome] is intelligence. Thus evolution is aimed at intelligence.
We should thus have a will to evolve. We have a moral responsibility to increase evolution and do so by continually striving to expand our abilities throughout life by acting in harmony with the evolutionary process…
Science and technology move us toward Utopia. One of the most exciting things about transhumanism is that all will be fixed.
That all sounds so alluring.
After all, who wouldn’t want to live in a “utopia” where everything that is currently wrong with our planet has been “fixed”?
But transhumanists don’t just stop there.  They believe that eventually we will possess such superhuman powers and will enjoy such radical life extension technologies that we will essentially be like God.
The most famous transhumanist on the globe, Ray Kurzweil, takes 150 vitamin supplements a day in an attempt to extend his life until more advanced life extension technologies can be developed.  In chapter 7 of “The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology”, he expresses his belief that evolution and technology are systematically moving us in the direction of becoming more like God…
“Evolution moves toward greater complexity, greater elegance, greater knowledge, greater intelligence, greater beauty, greater creativity, and greater levels of subtle attributes such as love. In every monotheistic tradition God is likewise described as all of these qualities, only without any limitation: infinite knowledge, infinite intelligence, infinite beauty, infinite creativity, infinite love, and so on. Of course, even the accelerating growth of evolution never achieves an infinite level, but as it explodes exponentially it certainly moves rapidly in that direction. So evolution moves inexorably toward this conception of God, although never quite reaching this ideal. We can regard, therefore, the freeing of our thinking from the severe limitations of its biological form to be an essentially spiritual undertaking.”
Transhumanist Mark Pesce is even more extreme.  He openly states that he believes that transhumanism will allow us “to become as gods”
“Men die, planets die, even stars die. We know all this. Because we know it, we seek something more—a transcendence of transience, translation to incorruptible form. An escape if you will, a stop to the wheel. We seek, therefore, to bless ourselves with perfect knowledge and perfect will; To become as gods, take the universe in hand, and transform it in our image—for our own delight. As it is on Earth, so it shall be in the heavens. The inevitable result of incredible improbability, the arrow of evolution is lipping us into the transhuman – an apotheosis to reason, salvation – attained by good works.”
And what transhumanist Dr. Richard Seed has to say about all of this is quite frightening.  He warns of “warfare” if anyone tries to prevent him from becoming a god…

WHERE THE WORLD'S UNSOLD CARS GO TO DIE

In the past several years, one of the topics covered in detail on these pages has been the surge in such gimmicks designed to disguise lack of demand and end customer sales, used extensively by US automotive manufacturers, better known as "channel stuffing", of which General Motors is particularly guilty and whose inventory at dealer lots just hit a new record high. But did you know that when it comes to flat or declining sales and stagnant end demand, channel stuffing is merely the beginning?

Presenting...

Where the World's Unsold Cars Go To Die (courtesy of Vincent Lewis' Unsold Cars)

Above is just a few of the thousands upon thousands of unsold cars at Sheerness, United Kingdom.  Please do see this on Google Maps....type in Sheerness, United Kingdom.  Look to the west coast, below River Thames next to River Medway. Left of A249, Brielle Way.

Timestamp: Friday, May 16th, 2014.

There are hundreds of places like this in the world today and they keep on piling up...

THE WORLDS UNSOLD CAR STOCKPILE

Houston...We have a problem!...Nobody is buying brand new cars anymore!  Well they are, but not on the scale they once were.  Millions of brand new unsold cars are just sitting redundant on runways and car parks around the world.  There, they stay, slowly deteriorating without being maintained.
Below is an image of a massive car park at Swindon, United Kingdom, with thousands upon thousands of unsold cars just sitting there with not a buyer in sight. The car manufacturers have to buy more and more land just to park their cars as they perpetually roll off the production line.

There is proof that the worlds recession is still biting and wont let go.  All around the world there are huge stockpiles of unsold cars and they are being added to every day.  They have run out of space to park all of these brand new unsold cars and are having to buy acres and acres of land to store them.

NOTE:
The images on this webpage showing all of these unsold cars are just a very small portion of those around the world.  There are literally thousands of these "car parks" rammed full of unsold cars in practically every country on the planet.  Just in case you were wondering, these images have not been Photoshopped, they are the real deal!

Its hard to believe that there are so many unsold cars in the world but its true.  The worse part is that the amount of unsold cars keeps on getting bigger every day.

It would be fair to say that it is becoming a mechanical epidemic of epic proportions.  If anybody from outer space is reading this webpage, we here on Earth have too many cars, why not come and buy a few hundred thousand of them for your own planet! (sorry but this is all I can think of)

Below is shown just a few of the 57,000 cars (and growing) that await delivery from their home in the Port of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. With Google Maps look South of Broening Hwy in Dundalk for the massive expanse of space where all these cars are parked up.

The car industry would never sell these cars at massive reductions in their prices to get rid of them, no they still want every buck.  If they were to price these cars for a couple of thousand they would sell them.  However, nobody would then buy any expensive cars and then they  would end up being unsold.  Its quite a pickle we have gotten ourselves into.

Below is shown an image of the Nissan test track in Sunderland United Kingdom.  Only it is no longer being used, reason...there are too many unsold cars parked up on it!  The amount of cars keeps on piling up on it until its overflowing.  Nissan then acquires more land to park up the cars, as they continue to come off the production line.

UPDATE: Currently May 16th, 2014, all of these cars at the Nissan Sunderland test track have disappeared? Now I don't believe they have all suddenly been sold.  I would guess they may have been taken away and recycled to make room for the next vast production run.

Indeed next to that test track and adjacent to the Nissan factory, they are collating again as shown on the Google Maps image below.  So where did the last lot go? This is not an employees car park by the way.

None of the images on this webpage are of ordinary car parks at shopping malls, football matches etc.  Trust me, they are just mountains and mountains of brand spanking new unsold cars. There is no real reason why you should be driving an old clunker now is there?

The car industry cannot stop making new cars because they would have to close their factories and lay off tens of thousands of employees.  This would further add to the recession.  Also the domino effect would be catastrophic as steel manufactures would not sell their steel. All the tens of thousands of places where car components are made would also be effected, indeed the world could come to a grinding halt.

Below is shown just a small area of a gigantic car park  in Spain where tens of thousands of cars just sit and sunbathe all day.

They are also piling up at the port of Valencia in Spain as seen below.  They are either waiting to be exported to...nowhere or have been imported...to go nowhere.

Tens of thousands of cars are still being made every week but hardly any of them are being sold.  Nearly every household in developed countries already has a car or even two or three cars parked up on their driveway as it is.

Below is an image of thousands upon thousands of unsold cars parked up on a runway near St Petersburg in Russia.  They are all imported from Europe, they are all then parked up and they are all then left to rot. Consequently, the airport is now unusable for its original purpose.

The cycle of buying, using, buying using has been broken, it is now just a case of "using" with no buying. Below is an image of thousands of unsold cars parked up on an disused runway at Upper Heyford, Bicester, Oxfordshire. They are seriously running out of space to store these cars.

It is a sorry state of affairs and there is no answer to it, solutions don't exist.  So the cars just keep on being manufactured and keep on adding to the millions of unsold cars already sitting redundant around the world.

Below are parked tens of thousands of cars at Royal Portbury Docks, Avonmouth, near Bristol in the United Kingdom. If you look on Google Maps and scan around the area at say 200ft you will see nothing but parked up unsold cars. They are absolutley everywhere in that area practically every open space has unsold cars parked up on it.

Below is that same area in Avonmouth, UK, but zoomed out. Every gray space that you see is filled with unsold cars.  Anyone want to hazard a guess at how many are there...

As it is, there are more cars than there are people on the planet with an estimated 10 billion roadworthy cars in the world today.

We literally cannot make enough of them. Below are seen just a few of the thousands of Citroen's parked up at Corby, Northamptonshire in England. They are being added to daily, imported from France but with nowhere else to go once they arrive.

So there they sit, brand spanking new cars, all with a couple of miles on the clock that was consummate with them being driven to their car parks.

Below is the latest May 2014 Google Maps image of unsold cars in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Manufacturing more cars than can be sold is against all logic, logistics and economics but it continues day after day, week after week, month after month, year in year out.

Below is shown a recent (April 2014) screen grab from Google Maps of the Italian port of Civitavecchia.  All those little specks are a few thousand brand new unsold Peugeots.  Just collecting dust and maybe a bit of salty sea spray!

Below, all nice and shiny but with nowhere to go.  Red and white and black and silver, purple, pink and blue, all the colors of the rainbow and be they all brand new.  Indeed all the colors of the rainbow are down there on those cars, making pretty mosaics, montages of color and still life.  Maybe that is all they will now ever be, surreal urban art of the techno production age.  Magnificent metal boxes, wasting space and saving grace, all sitting still, because its business at mill.

All around the world these cars just keep on piling up, there is no end in sight.  The economy shouts out quite loud that nobody has the money anymore to spend on a new car. The reason being that they are making their "old" cars go on a lot longer.  But we cannot stop making them, soon we will run out of space to park them.  We are nearly running out of space to drive them that's for sure!

Below, more cars mount up in the port of Valencia in Spain. They will not be exported as there is nowhere for them to go, so they just sit and rot in their colorful droves.

Gone are the days when the family would have a new car every year, they are now keeping what they have got.  It may be fair to say that some  families still get a new car every year but its the majority that now do not.

The results are in these images, hundreds of thousands if not millions of cars around the world are driven from their factories, parked up and left.

Could we say that these cars have been left to rot!  Maybe, as these cars will certainly rot if they are not bought, driven and cared for.  It does not look like they will be sold any day soon, many of them have been standing for over 12 months or even longer and this is detrimental to the car.

Below, as far as the eye can see, right into the background, cars, cars and more cars. But what's beyond the horizon?  Have a guess...Yes that's right...even more cars!  All brand new but with no homes to go to.  Do you think they will ever start giving them away, that may be the only radical solution.  Who knows, you could soon be getting a free car with every packet of cornflakes.

When a car is left standing idle, all the oil sinks to the bottom of the sump, and then corrosion begins to set in on all the internal engine parts where the oil has drained away.

Cold corrosion is when condensation builds up in the cylinders and rust forms in the bores. The engines would then start to seize and would need to be professionally freed before they could be started.  Also the tires start to lose air and the batteries start to go flat, indeed the detrimental list goes on and on.

So the longer they sit there the worse it slowly becomes for them.  What is the answer to this?  Well they need to be sold and that just isn't happening.

The epidemic is not improving, it is getting worse.  Car manufactureres are constantly coming out with new models with the latest technology in them.  Hence prospective buyers of, for example, a new Citroen Xsara Picasso want the latest model, not last years model.  Hence all the unsold Citroen Xsara Picasso cars from the previous year will now have even lesser chance of being sold.

The problems then just keep on mounting up.  In the end, the unsold cars that are say 2 years old will have no alternative but to be either crushed up, dismantled and/or their parts recycled.

Some car manufacturers moved their production over to China, General Motors and Cadillac are examples of this.  They are then shipped over in containers and unloaded at ports.  However they are now being told to put a big halt in their import into the U.S.A. as they just can't sell them in the quantities they would desire.  Consequently Chinese car parks are now filling up with brand new American cars.  Well nobody in China can afford them on their meagre pittance wages, so there they will stay until our economy improves...which it might do in a few generations.

VANITY FAIR HIT-PIECE ATTACK ON "CONSPIRACY THEORISTS"

One method used by the governing classes through certain media outlets to prevent people from researching areas known as 'conspiracy theory' is by employing the old ad hominem logical fallacy.

Yes. Ridicule & defining the moral agenda for large numbers of people.

Kurt Eichenwald, former New York Times journalist, & contributing editor for Vanity Times primarily employed condescension & derision in this article.

Mikipedia political blog has broken down some of Kurt's tactics for you so that we may be better placed, both individually and collectively, to appreciate these tools when they are being employed dynamically.

WHO IS KURT EICHENWALD?

THE CREEPING DANGER OF CONSPIRACY THEORISTS

The results are in: we’re a nation of idiots.
Journalistic tactic: Start with an absolute, but controversial statement to hook you in emotionally, before, reeling it back somewhat to then introduce a more measured, balanced concept that you are more likely to accept.

Well, that might overstate the case a bit.
Here is the reelback. Note however, that it is a partial reelback due to the words "a bit".

But some of the latest polling data does seem to show that at least 30 percent of American citizens—and maybe lots more—are as dumb as a bag of inbred hammers.
And here is that measured position that readers of this article are being asked to accept.

   1. That 30%+ of the American citizens "are as dumb as a bag of inbred hammers".

   2. That these people are conspiracy theorists.

   3. That you are too smart to be caught up in such nonsense.

To achieve this, Eichenwald, introduces a poll as an authority figure vehicle, as well as, derision, when he labels certain people as being "as dumb as a bag of inbred hammers" despite the fact that inaminate objects can not breed, much less inbreed.

So why?

Authority figures are often used as a reason for you to believe something, or to perform a particular action in politics, courts, the corporate media & in general arguments between people.

The logic of appealing to an 'authoritative source of truth' is sound. The problem comes with what is actually cited as an authoritative source.

In this instance, it is a recent poll. This is an appeal to community opinion, or, popularity.

Community opinion is only ever employed as being important and legitimate if it suits the agenda of those appealing to us to agree with them.

The truth about their opinion of 'community opinion' is revealed whenever you disagree with them, especially if you say no to them, or research and share whatever really happened.

Derision, on the other hand, is an attempt to program you to express certain sentiments to certain people in certain situations.

PPP has been criticised for having a pro democrat bias that is denied by PPP.

The poll in question is a delightful one put out this week by Public Policy Polling, a concern ranked by Fordham University as the best out of 28 organizations for the accuracy of its national pre-election estimates in 2012.

The concept of the opinion poll as a measure of truth and popularity is consolidated and extended with the introduction of the Public Policy Polling company, despite criticisms that this company is ostensibly a democrat mouthpiece. Certainly, Vanity Fair itself believes that this is the case.

So why hasn't Eichenwald, an experienced writer, journalist & editor, shared this inconvenient truth with his readers?

How much accuracy can we place on the poll results used by Eichenwald, when his own employers believe that the pollsters themselves display political bias?

This time, the folks at P.P.P. decided to have a bit of fun, and rather than polling about which political party is up or down, opted to ask Americans about their beliefs in conspiracy theories. I can just imagine the laughter at the P.P.P. offices when they started putting together the questions.

Eichenwald isn't the only journalist to sneer and condescend about conspiracy theories. This is one of the programming tools used on those who think that they are more intelligent because they are higher earning tax slaves, because they have a degree, or are in possession of some other type of superiority complex. This tool is a combination of flattery and divide and conquer. It identifies 'the idiot' and you as 'intelligent' on the basis that you are not 'the idiot'.

What is important to remember is that so far, Eichenwald has thrown rocks at people that he doesn't like and used a distorted, political instrument to try and convince you that not only are they are stupid, but that, you should not like these people, and that further, you should not like what they research, irrespective of whether the research is correct or not.

The results, though, were no comedy. More like a horror movie—and one with a plotline that goes beyond any level of belief.

So we learn that the role of the community as an authority figure is actually dependent on if those opinions conform to Eichenwald's.

How many of you think Barack Obama is the Antichrist?
Conspiracy Theory #1, leading with one that many readers will think is a silly concept despite the fact that i, and many other researchers.
You know, the fella (or fellas-not women or a woman though, depending on which part of the Bible you’re reading) confronted by Jesus in the Second Coming?
Deliberate distortion of a response to fit the looming criticism. Many people would have said yes on the basis that Obama, –like Bush before him– is an arsehole or even the opposite of Christ, rather than considering that they were vocalising whether or not they felt that the end times were here.

Twenty-six percent of Americans either believe that the president is preparing for war with the Messiah or aren’t sure that he isn’t. (Of course, since Obama has been in office for five years, these yahoos should really start to wonder what’s taking Jesus so long to get back to Earth to confront the demon president.)
When facts do not support your view, fudge them, as Eichenwald has done here.
As illustrated by the poll itself, only 13% of respondents believe that Obama is the anti christ. Another 13% simply don't know. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2011/PPP_Release_National_ConspiracyTheories_040213.pdf
This was the only mention of the Obama/Antichrist in a poll question so all references to end times is a sensationalist tactic by Eichenwald.

Isn't it ironical that the very evidence that Eichenwald uses to throw rocks at people is political and flawed?

Hopefully, these are the same 26 percent of wackos who believe that the government puts fluoride into drinking water not for dental health but for “other, more sinister reasons,” as the P.P.P. question read. It was all a communist plot, you see, to do . . . something.
Now Eichenwald introduces his first real 'conspiracy theory' linking it together with his 'proof' about end times, Obama & the anti-christ.

Note that Eichenwald at no point in time attempts to elucidate why people make this claim, nor, does he he mention any of the health professionals, whose research illustrates that fluoride is a dangerous neuro-toxin that will kill you if ingested at a high enough concentration.

What Eichenwald does instead is to insinuate and throw rocks,to imply that all fluoride awareness research and education is linked to the aforementioned political/biblical belief.

Should we expect more from someone who is clearly a supporter of Big Brother and the surveillance state?

Stanley Kubrick did a delightful send-up of this conspiracy theory in the film Dr. Strangelove, with a main character who declared that fluoridation was designed to contaminate the “precious bodily fluids” of Americans. He started World War III because of his beliefs; fortunately, most of the 26 percent probably couldn’t even start a math test.
Fictional movie scenarios as proof??? This

That doesn’t mean that these uninformed–unnecessarily added opinion to the sentence is an attempt to program your opinion– folk are harmless.
After setting you up to think that conspiracy theorists are idiots. Eichenwald now moves to try to program you into agreeing that these are not harmless idiots, but, are actually something else.

Fifty-four percent of Americans—more than half the country!—either believes that childhood vaccinations cause autism or aren’t sure whether they do.
Note that Eichenwald is back to adding different responses together to secure his desired result? Are you aware that he has as much disdain for his readers as he does for conspiracy theorists? How else do you account for his presentment of jumbled bits and bobs of evidence pasted together as something conclusive, his lack of empirical evidence, instead relying on opinions, humour, condescension, rocks and Kubrick.

Never mind that study after study, including one just released by the Centers for Disease Control, say this belief is uneducated malarkey.

Why should anyone consider that when we have former Playboy model and B-movie actress Jenny McCarthy disagreeing? Yes, that is where we are: Americans are more likely to believe a nursing-school dropout than PhDs from America’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning.
Interesting choice. Why did Eichenwald not choose to illustrate the views of another woman from America's culture, someone like Mayim Bialik, actress from popular sit-com, 'The Big Bang Theory'?
Would this be because a playboy bunny is a better fit for Eichenwald's contention than someone that holds a degree in neuro-science??

Oops.

Is there any doubt that this Eichenwald article is anything other than a hit-piece trying to dupe people back under the governments control because they cannot stop people from learning and committing to freedom?

Which brings us to the next absurdity: climate change.

Forty-nine percent either believe the college dropouts and billionaires or aren’t sure if they should—that global warming is a hoax.

Not simply that scientists are in error (which they aren’t) but that they have orchestrated the most expensive, wide-ranging, and mind-numbing fraud in the history of the world, just ’cause.

Once again, it’s the PhDs versus college dropouts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
Notice that Eichenwald is appealing to the readers perceived party bias, rather than their need to read truth. This happens in every single conspiracy theory hit piece produced by the corporate media.
Notice that we are back to false messiah's as the prophet scenario.
Using Limbaugh & Hannity as experts is running three programs.
1. The utilisation of mass media identities as 'authority figures' right or wrong which is an attempt to limit your sources of information.
2. Asking you to accept that climate change denial is reliant on media identities rather than acceptable authority figures or science. And, that
3. Any arguments put forward by these aforementioned media identities is going to have exploitable flaws that can be successfully argued against.

Sure, there are a few scientists—almost never climatologists except for the ones that are climatologists but not quoted as being as experts in their field like the Fox News Journalists—who cast aspersions on the idea that all the melting ice and record temperatures in the world might have something to do with the planet getting warmer.
The planet is getting cooler.

But when the vast, vast, vast –three times for extra oomph– majority of scientists—including one hired by the Koch brothers, the multi-billionaires with a financial interest in poo-poohing climate change really?—have concluded not only that the phenomenon is real but that it is being triggered by man-made pollutants, perhaps doubters should set aside their doubts.

But the Limbaughs and Hannitys of the world –as opposed to the unnamed climatologists or, heaven forbid, the science itselfhave done a great job convincing Americans that climatologists have entered into this massive, incomprehensible conspiracy –incomprehensible to Eichenwald, who is actually distorting the positions of most people who question the legitimacy of the science that supports the philosophy of climate change– to fool the world that there’s a problem.

The reason, they say, is that climatologists are doing it for the money, so they can continue to live in their climatologist mansions and drive their climatologist Ferraris
Who is making this claim? The aforementioned idiots @ Fox?

(For the 26 percent who might not get it, that was sarcasm.) Eichenwald is back to throwing rocks @ those that disagree with him.

Meanwhile, the people who selflessly fight for Americans—the billionaire industrialists and oil-industry magnates—
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

speak only truth because,
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

you know, they have no financial reason to suggest climate change is a fraud.
As opposed to the scientists arguing for scientists arguing for climate change.

After all, they have dedicated themselves to a modest life so they can advance the truth, residing in their tumble-down, billionaire shacks and driving their billionaire 1994 Chevys. (Once again—sarcasm.)
Once again, rock throwing.

I’m not belittling the McCarthys, Limbaughs and Hannitys simply to be snide.
i do believe this statement.

The reality here is that science is hard.
Hard? Really? Science can be quantified as a weight value??? Maybe, Eichenwald thinks that Science is difficult?

Perhaps for Eichenwald

Maybe that is why he has dumbed all of the different scientific disciplines into one word, an easily digestible statement that appears correct to the agreeable, those in support and those who aren't thinking about the statement critically.
No.

This is another programming statement that is intent on locking you into agreement with the concept that Eichenwald is seeking to weave.

The statement is actually playing on Eichenwald's logic that those that disagree with him on conspiracy theories are mentally deficient.
It requires deep and long-term training to understand the ractions in ecosystems or microchips or intestines.
A statement of the obvious, designed to have readers believe that those that Eichenwald has targeted for attention, do not know that one must study in order to learn.

That would, presumably include the climatologists, who don't accept the science of climate change, and, the surgeons, doctors, nurses, teachers, and degree holders that don't vaccinate or partake in fluoridated water?

Of course, readers of this article are being encouraged to not think of those people. Rather, the programming has been to liken Eichenwald's targets as imbeciles.

Eichenwald wants his audience to join him feeling superior and throwing rocks at conspiracy theorists.

Eichenwald is a proponent of a Big Brother style surveillance state. He is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair & a former New York Times reporter.
Is it possible that he has an axe to grind with conspiracy theorists?

If a doctor said you had stomach cancer, would you consult Rush Limbaugh for a second opinion?
Or Kurt Eichenwald?

Of course, that sounds like nonsense,
Gosh, i agree with Eichenwald again.

but many Americans have no qualms about listening to political commentators and untrained activists when it comes to even more complex scientific questions.
Such as those on CNN, the ABC, BBC etc.

In essence, the greater amount of training it takes to understand something, the more likely, it seems, that Americans will turn to people with shallow knowledge for guidance.
Slap.

Take vaccines and autism. The entire idea started with a horrific, fraudulent study in a 1998 issue of the Lancet. Click on the link to the abstract, and you’ll notice the large, red word “RETRACTED” across it. The reason is that the study has been deemed a fraud. Not a single legitimate study backs the idea. But the McCarthys of the world march on, true believers who are simply unqualified, frightening Americans into believing their children are safer if they have no protections against deadly disease.
A distortion by using a situation that is advantageous to Eichenwald rather than the mountain of scientific data.

This is Eichenwald's 'smoking gun'.

Treat it as you would, W.Bush's smoking gun after 9/11, which whilst mentioned in the poll, has not scored Eichenwald's condescending derision so far in the article.

Matter of time?

The untrained assault on climate change is the same thing.
As opposed to the untrained support pushing climate change.

Consistently, political commentators will say such things as “there’s a blizzard! Global warming is fake!” without any understanding that there is a huge difference between weather and climate.) The greater problem was the phrase “global warming,” because the uninformed didn’t understand that rising climactic temperatures can cause changes in an ecosystem that result in wild swings in weather from both cold and hot. That’s why the phrase is now “climate change.” But folks like Limbaugh don’t get it. He just issued a new proclamation that climate change is fake because there has been stratospheric cooling. This is why you don’t get your science from a radio personality—Limbaugh just offered up the very scenario that the climatologists said would occur: climate change causes stratospheric cooling.
The old, he is arguing our position anyway retort. If that is case, why the fuss?
Notice that Eichenwald is talking about political commentators rather than scientists. This is all part of the programming that no scientists disagree with climate change.
Except for those scientists that Eichenwald admitted earler on in this article.

So, should you listen to me? Of course not. I’m not a scientist either.
Although, Eichenwald can write a decent enough sensationalist tabloid hit piece.

But there is plenty of valid research, easily accessible through google, that lays out the trends and issues surrounding the safety of vaccines and the changes in climate we experience.
Plenty of the same that offers the antithesis scientific view on both climate change and vaccination.

But Americans, based on the PPP poll, would rather listen to celebrities.
No. No such question was asked in the poll. This is another opinionated smear by a man with an axe to grind.

Bottom line here is that American ignorance isn’t always just funny—it can be downright dangerous.
Whenever an authority figure, or supporter thereof, doesn't like the stated opinion of 'we the people', it is the people that are wrong.

The poll just gets more and more depressing.

Almost half of Americans believe Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11 or aren’t sure whether he was.
28% do. Thanks to publications that Eichenwald was involved in like the New York Times & the others who printed Bush's lies without question.

Twenty-two percent: the Bush administration knowingly allowed the 9/11 attacks to happen.
Yes. It is on the low side. Despite this 9/11 truthers have done a wonderful job educating the public. This number is significantly higher depending on the survey.

Nineteen percent: the Paul McCartney we see perform these days is a lookalike who took the real singer’s place after he died in 1966.
Now we are back to the glib. Trying to associate real issues with glib ones. Older readers will be familiar with this one.

Here’s a great one.
Back to humour, condescension and rock throwing. This will not be about something glib like the Beatles.

Thirty percent either believe that the media or the government adds secret mind-control technology to television-broadcast signals or aren’t sure whether it’s true.
Another distortion. It's 15%. The question itself is an interesting one;
Notice how it is a distortion? No one claims that tv signals program people, but, as demonstrated, Eichenwald is more than happy to distort reality to make his point.

As we have seen in this article, corporate media outlets routinely program people, primarily through psychological means, in a manner similar to advertising. To learn more about this, go and research Edward Bernays.

Seriously! Almost one-third of Americans think they are being or might be subjected to secret mind control. (Bet that doesn’t stop them from watching American Idol, though.)
It would be better if the number was higher, but, of course the stated claim by Eichenwald is actually different than the one in the poll.

Eichenwald has simplified things down to suit his purpose.

Still, my favorite takes us into the beehive of lunacy inside too many American brains. The question asked by P.P.P., in total, was this:

Do you believe that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian world government, or New World Order, or not?

In a nation that spawned the Tea Party, small wonder that the results here are horrifying: 53 percent of Americans either believe in this vast conspiracy or aren’t sure if it’s false.

Our work is paying off to the point that they now are using spin doctors like Eichenwald to try and reassure you that you are free.

The problem is that people have stopped listening to these liars. People are waking up and learning about the true nature of their servitude.

Look, folks, the reality is that conspiracies are hard to pull off.
Like really hard. Maybe as hard as the hardest setting on your favourite video game, or even harder than that.

Large groups of media executives, reporters, politicians, and scientists couldn’t manage to conspire to have lunch, must less take over the world.
The old Noam Chomsky line. They can't all keep a secret. Like on the Manhatten Project for instance. Of course, there is no consideration of the compartmentalisation of information via hierarchy. Yet, the reader isn't meant to be thinking critically by this stage of the article. S/he is meant to be cheering loudly as each point is read.

But these nutty –opinion– beliefs have real consequences, on real people. Or, as Scientific American put it in an article last year, “[t]he new science denialism is creating an existential crisis like few the country has faced before.”
This reads like an opinion, as opposed to what real science actually does to learn about the world around them.

Why not quote the scientific magazine that performed unbiased tests and gained results that are agreeable to Eichenwald?

Oh that's right...... they don't have any.

Oops.

Yes, we have become scientific and political illiterates, –well, he is by admission, you don't have to agree to be that– and no nation can survive on a bedrock of such delusional stupidity.
Really? Eichenwald is suggesting that nations with large scale illiteracy can't survive, but, nations, can & have survived such situations, not, that the readers should be thinking critically as i mentioned earlier.

Of course, the 26 percent (or more) won’t believe me, if they manage to read this.
Back to rock throwing again for the loping or full circle effect.

Isn't Eichenwald clever to think to employ this common journalistic trick?

I’ll just be deemed an “elitist” for daring to suggest that demon science and data, rather than ridiculous conspiracy theories, should be used to judge reality.
No. It is more correct to label this man a wanker who deliberately distorts facts to make a point, who makes a comment like the one here, but, practices the exact opposite.

So, it may be a losing battle, but we should all try. I don’t want to be forced, someday, to stand by as the rest of the world renames our nation “America the Ignorant.”
That happened sometime in early 2001.

[Note to my editor: Please don’t forget to keep the combination of words in this piece that serve as a mind-control device, which will distract readers from the coming political battle between the government, Satan, and real Americans. My political and media masters have demanded that we don’t mess this up. And do not forget to delete this note to you. We can’t let anyone find out about this conspiracy. Best, Kurt.]
Why would an editor write this to himself?
Why would it be here if it was real and not a poor taste joke that is symptomatic of the article in its entirety?

This article illustrates the need to be aware when consuming corporate propaganda and programming.
